The Tasks

It is your task to find three different people who were pre-teens or teenagers during the Holocaust, and who lived in different countries that came under Nazi rule.  These individuals must be Jews from different communities in different countries, and should be from different time periods 1933-1945.  You must find out what life was like for them before the Holocaust, what it was like during the Holocaust, and what happened to each of them by the time the war ended.

Your group must gather its data and prepare a presentation for the class in which you introduce your research persons to us and tell us about their lives and experiences.  The presentation must be at least ten minutes long, and should include pre-printed notes for each class member, as well as visual and/or audio material for us to share.

You will by now have a familiarity with certain Holocaust vocabulary, terms, and definitions, and will have accomplished the reading of at least two pieces of Holocaust literature.  You will need to use your notes on the History of the Holocaust to guide you in your initial searches.

You must choose for your work among these roles:

     A.  The Researchers/Biographers (3 people)
     B.  The Geographer
     C.  The Chronologer

Each member of the team should visit these sites to become acclimated to the research task:

To review the events of the Holocaust:

www.wiesenthal.com (timeline of the Holocaust) or
www.fcit.usf.edu/holocaust (A Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust: Timeline)

To review important Holocaust terms:

www.fcit.usf.edu/holocaust/resource/glossary (Glossary of the Holocaust)

Each member should visit www.ushmm.org to explore both student and teacher resources.  See how the site works, as it will prove to be most valuable later in your research.  Be sure to navigate to "Research" then to "Collections" for an amazing array of pictures and stories of teenagers in the Holocaust.

Finally, each member should visit www.yadvashem.org to examine that site for use during research.  Be sure to navigate to "About the Holocaust" from the site index on the left side of the homepage.
